As a first step I got him to step down on the training table. He had been terrified of it and would not step on it. I scattered a few pistachio bits near my perching hand and he hopped right off and stayed there for quite a while till I picked him up again! So this was step 1:

Next I'm just going to let him hang out on it without pressuring him to learn something. I'll put some toys on the table. should I get a tabletop perch?

thanks folks! He's a little scared of the clicker which i need to use because it immediately marks the desired behavior. Somehow just saying good doesn't seem precise enough. I'll start clicking and treating tomorrow.

these are awesome! It's saying the med is good for pionus - wt 250 grams. BScoot weighs 325grams. Would it work for him? I've emailed them too.

Maybe you can do something a little different... you know those little baby food jar lids? They make a softer pop. If nothing else, get a small lid and just tap on it to mark the behavior.

In another video he followed me from end to end on the table with a treat and clicker. I'll post it later, he was full by the time I recorded it.
