Congratulations!
I just took Mocha and Odie in for their checkups. Odie is now officially elderly enough that they don’t give him shots other than the heartworm preventative. But he has a tumor growing way back in his tongue. The vet said that mouth tumors are never good and I did do research where it can be aggressive. Given his age and the fact that he is loosing vision, hearing and gets confused easily, we opted not to do surgery and do supportive care. He has no teeth and uses his tongue to eat...I just can’t make him miserable the last likely year of his life if we even were to get a year. My doggy woes continue. And Mocha has a slipping knee cap we have to keep an eye on.Oh I feel you on the Vet bills............still reeling in from more here too. Looks like you are like me when you cannot get them out of your mind.
I know it Girl, as they age and we know of their issues that's all we can do.I just took Mocha and Odie in for their checkups. Thank you! Sometimes I want to do everything that is available and it’s hard. His quality of life is already declining so I didn’t want to add to it. He probably naps 10 hours of the day as it is. Watching the poms struggle with med side effects have given me more insight too.I know it Girl, as they age and we know of their issues that's all we can do.
Supportive care, that's it. I wish many others would do this instead of trying to do invasive procedures. Acceptance is what alot with Pets as in our dogs and cats. I have my old cat now needing this. I accept her time isn't years, maybe another year, maybe months. I commend you as knowing what you do for yours and have done.
Prayers to the pommies and to you.
Hubby just said I was crazy but drove with me and bought him for me. I didn't have to use my allowance. He was about 1.5 hours away. And he looked good?
Congrats!
He is very cute and I'm happy that you followed your heart.
That's what I was reading...older, male dogs are more prone to oral tumors. They said that they couldn't remember seeing one on the tongue like that. But he said we could do surgery but he wouldn't do wide margins. Which if it is cancerous, would not be helpful. Miss one little bit and he may as well not have had surgery. They don't think he'd survive heart worm treatments so I thought why would he tolerate chemo? Thank you and I am sorry about your kitty. Agree, cancer sucks for animals and humans. One of our cats, Mischief Squawk, developed cancer behind her sinus and probably had the same type of cancer as Odie. I took her to a specialist and he told me that the type of cancer she had was extremely aggressive. He gave me the option of putting her through chemo, etc., but warned that the stress of the treatment wouldn't help or extend her life for any more than a couple of months (if that).
So we did what you are doing, she stayed home with me for as long as possible. Cancer has got to be the ugliest disease on the face of the earth.
My heart goes out to you and Odie
He is a doll. Still quiet as a mouse though. His call is this pitiful whistle. Probably what sucked me in at the petstore the first time. That Maks is looking SO birdnapable ...
Thank youCongrats on your new birdie!
And sending prayer to Odie.
Oh that sounds awful...I'm glad he's doing well!Awww such an adorable baby! Congratulations
Sorry to hear your dogs aren´t doing so well. That mustn´t be easy
I found out that Jacob has dysplasia on both sides when he was 5 months old, the vet who did the xray (not my vet) was hammering me to pay for an operation to file away at his bones (femurs? the knuckle bit at the top that is supposed to sit in the hip socket). Full recovery was expected to take 6-12months. I opted not to operate. He has quality food and steady exercise. He never jumps up at people and sometimes struggles to get in my bed (in the winter) but apart from that he´s doing great. My vets keep an eye on him and monitor his `progress - he´s now 6
Now that's a great Hubby! I am happy for you!!!Hubby just said I was crazy but drove with me and bought him for me. I didn't have to use my allowance. He was about 1.5 hours away.
