We bred one family of Shelties years ago and what I just loved was the way their little noses went from being quite snub at birth to elongated as they grew. Reminded me of Pinochio!
The Shetland Isles where they were first bred, still use them to bring in and look after their small rock sheep. They can jump quite a hight from standing to allow them to get around the rocky crags on the island. Their skin is covered with a dense wool coat and then the smooth hair on top to keep them warm in the adverse weather conditions they encounter there.
I just love the breed, their temprament and the way they can sing if encouraged to music.
If there is trouble anywhere our Sheltie will have started it but then disappeared off the scene before getting caught! Always the wrong side of a door etc, they are little characters.
