Milton pulled about 8 or 9 feather sheaths out on his left side today. :( It's pretty much a mess now. The next plan of action is to get a child's sock, cut it up, and use it as a pull over...

I'm sorry this is happening - is Milty going through a mid-life crisis maybe?

Oh no, I'm so sorry that he's back at it! Don't you wish you could just wiggle your way into his brain and figure out the problem? How disheartening.

Still, better than what I thought your post was going to be about based on the title. My heart leapt!

Oh no! I am sorry. I was hoping he would stop permanently. We were at another avian vet's today, to try to figure out what to do for Snuggles. I thought of you and Milty, and how fortunate that he has stopped picking.

The doctor said out of the many thousands of birds who pick, he has cured ONE of the habit. Maybe Milty's vet can say the same about Milty someday sooner than later. I sure hope so.

We're not going to give up the feathers without a fight. We'll try the sock shield and go from there.
And it isn't meant as a joke, just a possibility?
He's in a good mood this evening...whistling and laughing before bedtime tonight. Surely it is a mystery...

We had to take Snuggles' collar off. He would not eat or drink and barely moved. So today it was off to the second avian doctor two hours away and the first of 3 Lupron shots.

Good luck.

Could it possibly be Buddy ? the recent addition to the flock :o: sometimes backtracking to get to the root cause, and what has changed significantly in his environment may give you some leads. This may have been brewing for awhile :chin:possibly he may have been plucking discreetly, until now, has become a chronic issue. I hope you get to the bottom of the problem.

I've thought of that, also. I know that Milton has shown jealousy issues if he sees me interacting with any of the birds or guinea pigs in the past. Therefore I don't interact with them in front of Milty.

Those are also good ideas. I'll have to go online to order the products...Erie is so very far behind in selling products such as those...

Sorry to hear he has decided to pluck again. Nerd bird used to overpreen the purple spot on his chest and it would get all ragedy looking. usually a good shower would have him looking nice again until he got his chest all full of bird spit again.
he would also yank out the deformed flight feathers that tried to come in on his bad wing but I think for him it was a self comfort thing when he was getting scritches or happy. The feathers hurt him so out they came and it was a great
day if he let one or two stay.
I hope you get a handle on what is causing him to do it and I also wonder if Buddy may have put him in a mood or something seeing how it's the latest thing to change in his life. Either way just love him and work with him on it.
