Heard a whooshing wing flapping sound in the backyard and saw this guy perched on the block wall.

Wanted to go outside to get a better photo but didn't want to take a chance opening the door and perhaps having him fly into the house. He was scanning the backyard looking for something to eat. Glad the young sparrows and mourning doves were not around. I saw him hanging out on someone's balcony the other day.

Wonder what kind of hawk it is? I had a red tail launch and fly over my head when I walked out to my back yard. It was sitting on the gutter watching the back yard for food when I surprised it. It was a surprise to me too to have such a large bird fly 10 feet over my head~

Wanted to grab my camera and the zoom lens but was in a hurry. Also shot through dirty dog door. LOL
It's a hawk but I don't think it's a red-tailed hawk. Looked like a young hawk. If I see him again I'll try and get a better photo.
Hope he didn't get the mourning doves. They usually visit my backyard but haven't seen them today.

Hubby says his best guess is a sharp shinned hawk because of the skinny legs but could be a cooper's hawk. The photo was too grainy for him to get a decent look.... he says... wash your doggie door...

Here's a sharp shinned and coopers hawk.
