Avatar image filetype?

I've been trying all afternoon to figure out which file type to use for my Avatar image. It is suggested that the picture be no less than 200 x 200 pixels. However, the smallest file size I can get for image size is right around 75 KB. I'm finding it impossible to upload anything half that size (100 x 100 pixels at ~25 KB) because the maximum upload size is 19.5 KB. I've tried .jpg, .tif, .png, and .gif. So far they're all about the same on size.

Suggestions?

Edit: I tried it again to capture screen shots of the erros and it worked... with a 39 KB .JPG that was 360 x 360 pixels. But not the 200 x 200 pixel image. Maybe it's my computer?

Use jpg and if you have Adobe PS save for the web > jpg, high resolution.
I can do it for you if you post the pic.

I'm thinking often the forum will resize it for you. I don't remember having a special avatar.

The process was quirky as all get out, but I'm happy that I was finally able to load the scritchy picture.
