Can you use vinegar close to your bird or do they have to be moved until the smell dissipates?

I love my bamboo floor. It's much cheaper than wood (could be cheaper than some laminate), looks beautiful, and handles water issues much better than wood (e.g. if you need to soak dried birdie poops for few minutes... no problem with bamboo). I had bamboo in two different houses. For the first house, after almost 10 years, it looked new. When I moved to my current house, I put bamboo again. I do not wear shoes in my house.

As long as you dilute it. Undiluted, the smell is actually toxic.

I can't use the Swiffer set up, it triggers asthma attacks for me. I use a damp mop with a couple of drops of Dawn dish soap and rinse with white vinegar & water 50- 50.

The Swiffer Wet Jet gives me some sort of attack that feels like an asthma attack. I would be really afraid of using it around birds. I would lie to have one of those steam machines that clean floors. Anybody used one of those?
I have a steam mop. I like it the best for cleaning my hard floors. No cleaning additive required, not even vinegar.

All these stories of swiffer solutions triggering asthma attacks are scaring me!

I mean, I don't think I really need much more than plain old water most of the time. We don't wear our shoes indoors unless we're running in to get something, so most of it is just dust, crumbs, and feathers. The birds do poop on the ground but we just scrub away with water, so I think mopping with water and just using something tougher like vinegar once in a while for a deeper clean should be fine for us. We do sweep, but I like mopping because I find it's hard to get everything up without some moisture

I have a steam mop. Plain old water. Works great for us. It says on it "Haan floor sanitizer, slim and light".

If I need a deep clean (can't remember last one), I'd use hot water and vinegar and get down on my knees and go to it.

Oops. I don't have hardwood. I just have linoleum floors.

So after the search for new floors.....have been told time and time again NOT to use steamer on anything other than a tile floor. Have been told repeatedly that it destroys the underlying parts of laminate or hardwood and tears up the floor.

Everyone, be very careful of the Swiffer products. Many of the Swiffer pads, solutions have FEBREEZE in them and Febreeze has been deadly for many birds. The Febreeze may be the source of allergic reactions.

Use your own concoction that you know has nothing dangerous in it and shop carefully for pad and be sure to get the ones that have nothing infused in them.

I have put vinegar and water (50/50) in the swifter bottles before. There is a YouTube video that shows you how to get them open. You can also spray the floor with the vinegar mixture and then wipe it with the mop.

One does not have to use the swifter solutions. I just spray vinegar and water solution I make up first on the tile floor I have and then use the swifter mop. It works well. It saves the batteries in the swifter mop too.
