Also, antibiotics are treatment for bacteria, not viruses. If your vet is telling you the antibiotics are for treating a virus, find a new vet.

I spoke with the vet who said to hold the antibiotic and to contact her immediately if he back slides at all and she will give a different antibiotic.
She did do labs for kidney and liver function. Those were fine.

She said she wanted the antibiotics because he could have a systemic infection? And preventing infection with weakened immune system. His WBC was 10,500.

Giving antibiotics to prevent secondary bacterial infections is standard supportive care for humans with nasty viruses. It may be reasonable for a vet to do the same.

Can you do us a favor and take a picture of the amount of medication your vet is prescribing using the syringe??? (don't *need* to have medicine in it, just pull the plunger out to the amount recommended)

My cockatiel, Faye, was just on Clavamox.

Clavamox
5.6cc water
0.1cc=8.3mg

Dosage was 0.1 cc twice a day.

She had a bad bacterial infection (i.e. 80% of a fecal smear), but is now mostly over her infections. She has lost weight, but not because of the medications.

It is possible, as the others are stating, that your bird is just not reacting to the meds and needs to be put on something else.

I haven't given him anymore. The vet said to stop it and if he back slides at all and will prescribe another med. Here is a pic of the syringe. She drew a black line for me.
I can't figure out how to put the pic in.

Good vet! Mine uses tape with a red line to mark the spot.

Any luck though on getting a different type of antibiotic?
