So I noticed last night when I took my butters out of his cage for a little bonding time, that there is what looks like grass growing from the seeds at the bottom of the cage. His water feeder spilled so im assuming that's how it started. I clean his cage often so I was just kinda weirded out. Is this normal or should I be worried (because honestly im am)..

The seeds have sprouted:) sprouting seeds is really healthy! Your Tiel would probably love Some sprouted seeds, there is a thread about it in the ‘food court’, it is called “sprouting-wasyor complicated?” And holds a lot of great information:) With hot weather they sprout more quickly. How often do you clean his cage?

But you don't want to allow him to eat the sprouts on the bottom of the cage. Sprouting seeds needs to be done with a lot of attention to cleanliness, because fungus grows in them easily and the bottom of the cage is a perfect place for fungus to grow.

Sounds like the seeds your feeding him are nice and fresh, because only fresh seeds sprout. It only takes a day or two for a seed to grow a tail.

Yep, just his food seeds sprouting, nothing to worry about (and a good sign that they're nice and fresh). We just recently moved from MS, and I learned early on that I not only had to clean the bottom of the cages frequently, I had to empty out food bowls of any remaining seed, because it was frequently humid enough that some type of seeds would sprout just from the humidity after a few days! XD

I used to sprout seeds for Sky, but he wouldn't touch them, probably because ordinary seeds were the only thing he was used to eating. I'm guessing a bird more used to fresh foods would like them!
