Adding a female parakeet for my male?

My little boy Pip died a few weeks ago. Sky, his companion english budgie, loved him and is very lonely. I will not buy from a breeder. I know it's silly, but I would rather adopt one. I have been scouring the ads for a little male, but am not having any luck. I found a cute young female who I think might be a good friend for Sky. Any thoughts on this? I do not want babies, but there are no areas for nesting.

When I had a male/female pair, the female was a terrible bully to my male. I know it's the parakeet way of life... but I always thought he would have been happier with another male. One of my sweetest and tamest budgies was a female - but they are such bullies to their mates, apparently.

Well, maybe I will wait. I just feel so sorry for him. I cant let him out, as he flew into the window and bloodied up his cere last week. He is in a 5 foot long double flight cage, but he really needs a buddy. He is not tame at all, but so lonely that since Pip died, he came out twice and let me cuddle him and hold him. However, after the last accident, I dont want to do it anymore.

You can't predict how well they will get along whether it be male or female. I've had male & female budgies together and they were OK. Can you let him out in a smaller area and cover the window with something?

I too would get another male. Mostly here on Md. on CL there are only pairs up for adoption. You can get one where I did and the breeder ships them out. He has very nice budgies.

@iamwhoiam No. I wish I could, but one side of the house is floor to ceiling glass. @ladyjane Your boy is beautiful! I think I will try to purchase one locally. Pip and Sky were two males and got along great. Maybe I shouldn't take a chance and just stick with males then.

If you want the little parakeet, I think you should get her. There's no guarantee with any bird how they will get along.

Silly? No way!! ♥

I would have waited for a male too. I have never had problem with two males together, but I have with male - female.
But.... You do have a very large cage. Follow you heart, it's obvious that you have one. ♥

Are there any bird clubs in your area? They may have recommendations or perhaps a member breeds budgies.

@expressmailtome thank you! I am still hurt by it. It was a complete shock. He was a very busy, active bird, with a GREAT apetite. I dont know how old he was, though, as he was found outside. I had him for about 7 years.

@iamwhoiam No. Not that I am aware of.

@iamwhoiam Thanks! But those are too far from me and I dont know that they will have a parakeet anyway. I think most clubs are just meetings? Are there any other online ads you can think of, other than cl?

@Eloy Thankyou! You are so sweet!!! :)

@iamwhoiam Thankyou! I will check these out!!! :)
@Tyrion @webchirp Thank you for the condolences. I really miss him. He was always such a cheerful little guy. And so active! He loved his toys!

@cassiesdad I didnt. I backed off after reading the comments. I think she is still for sale though. And Sky is definitely lonely. :(
