Wow just read this whole thread for first time. What an amazing rescue, what a change in Pip and now he will have a new friend. So excited to see this great introduction to another fish.

Pip & Blu Update

Blu has sadly passed away. She somehow ended up with dropsy, recovered on meds, but the medications used to treat dropsy caused irreversible damage to her kidneys and she developed buoyancy problems due to fluid build up/retention and passed away within 24hrs of showing signs on October 1st. I did everything at any expense to save this beautiful soul :(
The plan was to get her cremated but Until We Meet Again Pet Memorial Center said I'd likely get no cremains back so I decided to plant a tree in her memory and bury her underneath. I planted the tree (a Weeping River Birch) in a large cedar planter so that should I move, I can take her tree with me! I also had memorial stones sandblasted for her as well (one of which is in Pip's tank)

Pip is doing well! He now has a JBJ 1/4HP chiller up and running (keeps the water cool), 2 Aqua Ultraviolet Sterilizers (kills bad bacteria, parasites, etc.), a second canister filter, and a Kessil A150W Amazon Sun LED light! These LEDs are largely bought by people with planted or reef tanks (they emit light in the UV spectrum and so aid in the growth of live plants, coral, etc.) BUT I bought it for aesthetic purposes because they have the best shimmer that mimics natural sunlight! I'll see to uploading a video of the tank that shows this magnificant shimmer!

Pip (picture taken this morning so this is what he looks like now!)

I'm so sorry for your loss of Blu. :sadhug2:
Those stones and the tree are a beautiful way to remember her.
Swim free, pretty girl. :sorrow:

Pip is looking amazing!
Wow, such an improvement from the first pictures you posted of him.
You can tell what a wonderful home you provide for him. :)

Ooooh..noooo. Blu was so pretty.
So sorry for your loss but luckiky Pip is still going strong.

Goldfish are survivors. 3 years in a barrel outside in Canada is amazing.

My black moor survived 18 hours out of water as my father dropped him the night he took the fish out of thr pond to put them in tanks in thr basement for the winter. I looked for him after school the next day & could not find him so i went outside & found him on a pile of moist leaves. Took him inside & moved him with my hand to get water in the gills & he was alive...He lived!

:omg:

I'm sooooo sorry about Blu :( I completely sympathize. I just had to euthanize my favorite goldfish for the exact same reason (dropsy then boancy issues after from meds) and I kept finding him in my filter uptake in the last couple weeks. Was getting so weak. :sorrow:

Maybe our fish can find each other and swim together over the rainbowbridge. Quinn stated out as a blue oranda and turned white.

I am so sorry for your loss of Blu :( The stones are amazing and seeing it in Pip's tank made me so sad, but happy at the same time! The tree is beautiful and I'm so glad you were able do that as a way of remembering Blu
