Hi all

Its abit early yet but Im wondering where the best place is where to buy a Blue hen after the moult has passed? All online sites are lacking (Im in the UK)..is it because it is too early or is a Blue a specialist buy?

Any canary breeder is likely to have blue hens. It's easiest to find canaries in the spring when females not needed to breed are sold off. Few people sell birds in the fall unless they are just hobby breeders who's pets had babies and they don't have room to keep them. Otherwise, people want to keep chicks until the next year to determine the best ones to keep to breed in the future. You can't tell that when they're babies necessarily and so most breeders don't sell off their young birds

Blue is a common color, as long as you mean the regular grey birds that are called blue to make them sound more appealing. There are not any actually blue canaries as there are blue budgies or parrots.

Thank you @Serin yes I do mean the named blue thats actually grey. The colour blue in birds is because of the feather structure which is interesting. Good to know that they are a common canary. Do you know how a blue is produced..pairing wise? Out of interest how do we know if we have a good hen? and to not sell it.
