I'm looking to grow some plants for Chirp. Ideally, something I could let him play on/in, munch on, etc. Something easy to grow and tough to kill.

I have a big plastic tray that I could fill with eco-earth (coco coir), and sprinkle with seeds.

Could I just take some millet and sprinkle it? How about Chirp's seed mix (millet, tricolor quinoa, flax, kamut, sesame)?

Any input is appreciated!

I have let some of my sprouts grow into greens for my birds. Wheatgrass is easy to grow...just sprout some wheatberries and place some in a small pot. I have also grown some pea shoot sprouts from Sprout People for them.

I grow lawns in seed trays for my budgies to frolic in.
Please bear in mind that no matter how clean the medium you use you will get a natural buildup of bacteria, some of which are harmful to our fids.
I start everything afresh monthly for that reason. That should still be okay for fast growing plants such as millet, or indeed any of your birds' seeds you decide to throw in. Obviously they'll never reach maturity.

You could try buying a yucca tree. They do ok as a house plant and little Chirp can shred it. :)
