Oh thought I'd post a few more pics just for pics sake lol! Here is Sunny & Sky again. Sunny is the green & yellow... he is still plucking but can't get to the vet until another bit. He came to me w/o a tail so no idea how that happened! inCollage_20190113_131421199.jpg
Here are the babies from today too. You can see Sprout is catching up quite well! He got fed by Moose, & Mom & Dad just earlier lol inCollage_20190113_131534927.jpg inCollage_20190113_131640919.jpg inCollage_20190113_131809618.jpg

I am sure you guys covered making sure the cage bars are not too wide. Don't want the birds to squeeze through! (1/2 inch to 5/8)

LOVE the pics, so cute!
Sprout won´t be Lutino. Maybe pallid or something like that. My Sydney looked like that as a chick :)
Sunny has no tail? like , no feathers? How weird, has he plucked them do you think? So, can he fly? Yea I´d agree he looks pied.
What is that on Skys leg? looks like a tiestrap instead of a metal ID band. You could cut that off. They are only used so that the breeders don´t inbreed them.
I can´t get over how different (age wise) all your birds look. I´m sure my youngest will be like sprout when my others are grown. I´m excited to see which mutations appear on my chicks :D I know they are not staying with me, but it´s still fun to see :) My eldest are about the size of sprout but they hatched on dec 20.

Sorry meant to reply earlier but got side tracked lol! Yes Sunny has no tail feathers & hasn't since I got him. I have no idea what happened. He has a few blue bits back there but mostly just naked bid butt! He can fly but he has a harder time I think. His flight has a sort of downward dip & he flaps a bit more to get height.

Sky's band needs to come off but I need to take her to the vet to have that done. It isn't tight at all but I hate it tbh! Doesn't seem to bother her though. I'd do it myself but I can't get anywhere near her. Not sure it's worth stressing her that much for now.

Moose hatched a good few days before the others! That's why I named her Moose. She's way bigger & more mature than the others. I still only see the faintest tinge of green on Sprout so far but I'll have to post more pics once he gets bigger. It is exciting to see how each is colored! The important thing is he is still going strong, even if he's a bit behind lol! Hope your babies are doing well too!!!

How strange :( Maybe they will grow back... i don´t know :(

Yes good idea getting the vet to do it :)

I only see green on Sydney in certain light or in photos taken with flash :) I agree, as long as he´s growing, that´s all that matters, no rush :)

Have you decided if you are keeping them all? Remember if you do rehome them to tell the person that they are hybrid lovebirds :)

I´ve just took some pics, ill add them on in a sec on my phone :) My birds are doing well, that little one is behind but like Sprout, he´s hanging in there! The eldest 2 are sleeping in one hand

Can´t wait to see more pics of Sprout :)

All together, sorry no flash my phone battery was low;

Hey I just wanted to say that Moose looks a bit like my birdie Chive! Chive is a hybrid (although when I got her I was told orangeface peachface... since then I've come to realize that's not true!) and although I've heard a number of things about hybrids like they have behavior and health problems and they have a shorter lifespan, Chive is now 11 and has and has had virtually no health problems so far and in my (extremely biased) opinion a wonderful personality with no more behavior problem than the average stubborn lovebird. So while it's definitely not a good idea to intentionally breed hybrids (which I know you didn't do!) the chicks may still have a bright future. They are adorable and the parents are cuties as well :)
I'm excited to see if Moose ends up looking like Chive!

Chive is a sweetie!! Defo not peachface. Can tell just by looking at him. Seems like rainbowings birds didn´t adopt the eye ring from the Fischer side, so moose and blue look like their dad Sunny.
I love lovebirds so much, if they weren´t so noisey I would have loads more hehe :D

Such cuties!!! Chive is so striking! Love

I have a younger lady & her grandmother coming to visit Moose Sunday. I made sure to let them know they are hybrid & will again when they stop by. Honestly they don't seem to act any different than their parents except being more tame! Hoping they are all gonna be good birds but I think that has more to do with care than being hybrid or pure tbh. The potential owner is 22 & already has a lovebird & experience. Really hopeful it's a good match & excited for Moose, also a tiny bit sad lol

Planning on keeping Sprout & Blue but I will see when they get to Moose's stage how we get along. Totally committed to giving them a good home though whether with me or someone else! But very much hoping to keep them. Would keep Moose but 5 birds is too many I decided & not enough space for 3 separate cages.

The parents are entirely different species, not subspecies. One is a peach faced lovebird, the other is Fischer’s. I would suggest removing eggs in future as hybrids are prone to health defects (as you mentioned).

I'm sure it will be sad to let her go, but it sounds like you found Moose a good home! 5 lovebirds is certainly a lot, and less birds means more individual time with each one :)

On a side note, I thought that while eyering/eyering (like fischers/masked) hybrids could reproduce, eyering/non-eyering (like fischers/peachface) hybrid babies were infertile. Although I cannot verify this so someone will probably correct me haha. Either way, what you're doing, just keeping the boys together is a good idea because better safe than sorry!

Also Zara- that first photo of all the chicks together made me laugh, they are all posed so nicely it looks like a family portrait!

I´m glad you´re hoping to keep the boys! I hope they get along well but after growing up together the chance is that whey will.
Yes these babies are tamer than their parents because you have been involved since a young age.
My 2 youngest are more glued to me than any of my other birds.. I think because I´ve always been here for them.. I don´t know.
Hopefully the lady who may take Moose home has a female lovie who will enjoy the company of a new friend :)
@tobias this took a good 20 pics to get right hahaha They don´t stop wiggling!
I also heard about infertility with hybrids but I think that it´s just a possibility, but I don´t know the facts re hybrids.
I have found homes for my 4. I haven´t sold them, they are all going to friends so hopefully they post pictures on social media etc My friend is taking 2, and bought the same cage as my youngest 2 have.

@Zara where did you learn about the subspecies and breeding etc? I have no intentions to breed but I'm still very interested in learning more about them! I'm working on a biology degree so I like to science ;)

I researched lovebirds when I got my first. I learned about the different types of lovebirds. (Lunalovebird said it better, Fischeri Personatus and Roseicollis are different species- I meant to say all part of the Agapornis genus.)
I wasn´t planning on breeding, but eggs were appearing and I was researching as I went. The breeder that sold me my first lovebird tought me how to handfeed which came in handy! But I had to research when to take the babies from the nest etc. If you look at my threads, you can see I had an issue with my chicks, where one wasn´t being fed and there is zero info about that online, luckily people in the forum here gave me good advice.
Also, when researching, I wouldn´t read one document online and believe it, I´d read up lots of different documents.
A lot of the behavioural stuff I´ve leaned from my own experiences watching my birds.
There´s a lot of things I don´t know about, there´s a lot to learn about such a small bird. Most of the things I know are things that have happened or things that are. So things like, illnesses, owning clipped birds, hybrid chicks etc I don´t know anything about as they don´t affect me ergo I haven´t researched those topics. But I´m sure there will be lots of information out there.

I hope that helps you?

That´s good that they don´t attack you :)
With that last clutch, I had the babies out with me on the sofa, dad Jaime was with us and I swear when the hen Aldora flew over and landed on me it was like that scene on ¨It´s a bugs life¨ when the grasshopper lands!!!!!!!!

You´ll have to make a new thread when you get the results and let us know :D
@Rainbowings I´ve just found a video of it on my mobile! I´ve uploaded it for you

Hope sprout is doing ok!

They are so cute!!! My birds are singing & chirping at the video as a type lol

Sprout is doing great, ty! He has started climbing & he's still very yellow. I do still need to supplement feed but only here and there, when mom & dad choose to ignore him. Blue is doing well to but he's picking up on Sky & Sunny being afraid of me & starting to see me as a threat too I think. Was hoping that wouldn't happen! Moose went home to her new human mom yesterday. At first everyone panicked & they all tried getting back to each other through the bars. That was sad tbh, but I know she has a good home & a new female lovebird friend named Sunshine there to keep her company too!

Did you not get another cage for the little ones? It´s time to be taking blue out from the parents cage. Put his cage next to the parents. They will sill see each other when you let them out to fly so it´s not a bad thing :)
Glad the parents are still feeding sprout. You could take both the chicks and handfeed Sprout.

Yes I just wasn't sure it was time yet or not! I'll give them another day or 2 to adjust without Moose & then move them to their own cage then. Thank you again! You've been such a huge help!!!

That sounds like a good idea. Sprout is coming along beautifully. He´s at the cutest stage! My eldest are about there too, but my little one has only just had his wing feathers poking through today
