Hello everyone. This thread and a couple of others has been informative, thank you.
I have a Caique, a female, 4 years old. She was sold as being hormonal, not a happy camper and not liking women. I haven't been bitten yet. She will go onto my finger, take food from me and is ok with my other birds but its early days. I have no problem with being bitten, its to be expected until I know her better however after reading about bites on here I am prepared. I think my rescued, disabled Eclectus bit harder, when I first got her, than any parrot I have had.
I am getting a male Caique shortly so it will be interesting to see how they get along. Thanks for taking the time to post about your experiences.

Welcome to the Avenue, Les. Have you done a Welcome Lane post telling us about yourself and your birds? If not, please do so and we will welcome you like we normally do.

Hey, JP. What is going on with the eggs????

Hatching week just started on Friday. No new Birdies yet. But zi lured Cha Cha out yesterday and removed 3 dud eggs.

That leaves 4 possibilities. But I'm off to Ireland for Xmas on Thursday so it's out of my control now.

Over to Cha Cha

24hours later. Looked in on nest. Chick had chipped about 75% of the way round the shell. At this rate about 5 hours work to do. Wow!

Could see he was quite dry and highly developed inside. So I gently removed the egg top, membrane inside was totally dry, and put him back in the nest. Still wrapped in his shell IMG_20190415_180324.jpg

Hopefully he will pop out from here. He's loud and moving his little wings so I'm hopeful

Bad news this morning. Chick dead in nestbox.

Still in shell as per pic above

Only thing I can think of is he was somehow trapped in the membrane attaching him to the shell. Anyhow I removed him from the shell. he was a tight fit but no moisture or stickiness

What a loss. Kicking myself I didn't place him in the incubator

he still had egg yolk remains attached to his little tummy.

RATS
