I'm well versed at identifying budgie mutations, often able to identify them on first sight. But lovies are relatively new to me.
I met this pair of lovies yesterday and we just 'clicked', they came straight to the side of the cage to meet me.
Now they are home and settling in, so I'm sure it won't be long before nature shows me which is the male. But I haven't a clue as far as identifying breed/mutation.
So I ask for your help -- can you identify these 2:

Colors are as true as I can get them on my phone.

One looks like a Fischer mutation because of the eye ring and red beak and the other looks like a Peach face mutation. Someone will be along who knows these mutations. They are very adorable and sweet how they took to you right away.

I seem to have something birds like. I had a male conure that just seemed to melt for me. Guess I'm the lucky one :D

I just wanted to say I haven't a clue toward identifying mutations, but they sure are little lovies (literally and figuratively!)

These are two different species of Lovebirds. They are very cute, but please don't allow them to breed.
No worries on that count, I have no interest in hybrids. Any egg that may be produced will be swiftly boiled. Certainly won't be encouraging it, but nature will have her way and as they're already bonded I won't split them.
Put simply, I understand your well placed concerns.

I believe the Fisher is female. She keeps presenting her rump to the other.
Stil need to sort the mutations, ie pied (my suspicion on both)

Congrats on the new additions to your family! They are gorgeous!

I don’t know anything about this, so please excuse my ignorance. But boiling the eggs? Isn’t that cruel? Or is it the only option when you (of course) don’t what to split them apart or risk hybrids? I’m curious...

Boiling the eggs immediately isn't cruel - a very early embryo wouldn't have developed a nervous system and cannot feel pain.

Can always replace them with fakes. Boiling the eggs before the embryo has even formed nerves isn't cruel but it would have to be very soon after the egg is laid. Some say just give the egg a good shake but how would you know if that's done the job?
I was actually waiting for someone to ask this question. Thought I'd get more of a negative reaction.

ETA I must have replied at the same time as tka there.

Surely smashing it would be better? Then you know 100% (I´m no expert, I´ve never destroyed an egg before)

No better to boil it and eat it. Food shouldn't be wasted! :eating:

Congrats to two beautiful Lovies! ♥
There are several here that are good at mutations and I hope you soon will get help.

Certainly won't be encouraging it, but nature will have her way and as they're already bonded I won't split them.
So happy to read that! :)
