OK, I need to find a new food for Wasabi’s treat cup.

The mix I have been feeding him for several years has too many nuts in it! There’s a lot of good stuff in the mix that I like to give him, such as dried fruit, veggie chips, and a small amount of pellets. The pellets in his food are sold in big bags - too big for just one zon.

When we get to about half a bag, I really have to hunt for anything not a nut. At that point, the squirrels, birds and ground hogs get the rest of the nut-filled bag.

Any recommendations?

Wasabi wants to know!

What mix is it? And what pellet? That way we don't recommend the same thing :)

I can’t find the names of the pellets. They are shaped like bones and the other pellets are triangular. Both are brownish in color. The ultra nutty mix we give him is from My Safe Bird Store. Tons of nuts. Wasabi loves it, and so do all the yard creatures. I limit W’s nuts to two a day. Not like a whole walnut or brazil nut. I mean W gets pine nuts, almonds and a few other small nuts.

Any recs?

Thanks very much for the information! I don’t know why I thought they were just sold in giant bags. Hmm.

How about red meat for the Wasabi.
You mean until they master the T stick???

Am I the only one that doesn't think Wasabi looks angry in that picture?

I do not think he looks angry either. Intent or focused on something, yes. Angry, no.

I have a blue-fronted amazon. I know his body language when he is angry, and it is very different to Wasabi's.

Wasabi's human can correct me of course.

How about some Lafeber Parrot Popcorn or Parrot Avicakes? My Amazons like those.

My goodness! :) :) :)

Such a gorgeous creature he is... I can't stop admiring him, especially when his feathers are slicked down. A force to be reckoned with.

If just for a treat and not regular diet, try cooked (no sauce) pasta or a bit of plain scrambled egg. I have the world's food-fussiest Amazon, only eats Harrison's pellets and walnuts if she can get them. Even hates almonds, pistachios, all veggies and fruits. To my horror, I have yet to meet a companion bird that dislikes a bit of scrambled egg.

Avian Naturals has a lot of good mixes: Cage Mixes
Thank you for this information! Once we have our forever address, I plan on ordering TD's food. I can never find what I want or am looking for or the same thing twice. Life on the road has quite a few drawbacks.

A lot of large parrot seed mixes are way too high in fat/nuts for an amazon and some cockatoos. For many years I've kept my cockatoos and amazons on a dry diet of zupreem pellets and cockatiel seed mix. I have not purchased large parrot seed mix for many years. Some cockatiel mixes have a fat content over 10%, but most are between 6% and 9%. In fact, even a high fat cockatiel mix is lower in fat than most large parrot mixes. My amazons eat the millet seeds out of it just like my parrotlets. They get between one and four nuts a week as a treat. I use Higgin's Cockatiel Supreme since it doesn't have any vitamins added and is 10% fat. By comparison, Higgin's Vita Seed Parrot(with an african grey on the bag) mix has 16% fat.
