Sun conure issue

So my Adam has chosen me as a replacement mate since his passed in March. When I refill his food, he gets in the dish and digs around in it like a pig. He flicks as much of the food out as he can, and eventually he tips the bowl over. If I put the dish in a hanger, he just digs it all out. In short order the dish is empty. My concern is that he's not really eating much. I can fill his dish 3 or 4 times a day, but it's just wasting the food because he spills it. My only option is to remove the grate at the bottom of the cage and give him access to what he spills. Any suggestions ?

We found a new girl for him. The introduction is going slow, and I hope he will turn his affection towards her and away from me. I'm getting tired of him trying to regurgitate on me every time I pick him up.

Some type of no mess feeder like this might help with the digging issue.

My solution was to use a Lixit Bath, and then use a ceramic dish inside of it. Pictures - Lixit Bath + Ceramic Bowl = | Avian Avenue Parrot Forum

I also only put enough food to cover the bottom so he is less likely to rummage.

Yep, I put Chya's pellets in a container on the floor and you can only see one layer. I only put pellets in the one dish and other foods in other places around the cage. She was scooping all the pellets out too.

I put the bottom of a garlic roaster in the cage and that seems to help. It isn't deep enough that he can dig everything out and scatter it all over the place. With him next to his new girlfriend he's been spending more time staring at her than throwing food everywhere.
