I brought my female Linnie bird last August and yesterday she laid an egg in a throw I have on my chair. She loves burrowing but am I doing something wrong/ is it because it’s spring. Also I have a chance to buy another female next month is it wise to have 2 together?

Female birds lay eggs and Linnies love to burrow in blankets and pillows so please be careful when sitting down. Caution you visitors the same. Do you want two females and more eggs? Linnies have a strong flock instinct so a friend for her may or may not work. It depends on the birds. I had a male and female who bonded to each other. Never had any eggs.

So is it better to have two females together, two males or one of ea? For pets, no babies?

Thanks for the reply. I had read that it was better for Linnies to have company and I wondered if I should get a male or female for her. They are just pets

I read that 2 female Linnies would get along better than other species but since I had a male and female I do not know the accuracy of this statement. Suggest you contact a reliable Linnie breeder. If you go to this link and look on the tip row of categories there is a pull down window, second one will show breeders and contact information. Lineolated Parakeet Society – LPS

Hi everyone I hope you can explain something to me. I have a female Linnie that’s about 9 months old. She was hand reared and when I got her she loved to cuddle up under my neck and preen herself on my shoulder. She now has found something more interesting. Burrowing! I get her out of the cage a lot and she heads straight for my throw and seems to absolutely love it. So much so that she doesn’t feel the need for a cuddle. Not sure what to do because if I stop her doing it she seems to get agitated. I’m happy if she’s happy but am I doing the right thing

Linnies seem to have an instinct in their little brain that say "crawl into that soft place" We just have to be careful when sitting down not to crush them, especially company because they may not be used to birds in the pillows or blankets. You will not be able to stop an instinct but you can be careful about the soft items around your home when she is out flying.

Thanks for your reply Diane. It’s just that she is so obsessive about doing it.
