...a new Guinea Pig today.

Jeffery Pig is adjusting to his new home well...he's found his food bowls and hay bin...very important items for piggies.

Milton saw him and reacted like his he'd just seen a monster....posturing and hissing, so I guess Jeffery is one of the family now.

I'll post pics later...;)

Well, maybe there's a chance Milton won't want to eat this particular pig? One can only hope.

Welcome, Jeffery! Do new gp's usually get along with old gp's or do they need some slow introductions?

We usually introduce a new guinea to the others right away...and closely monitor the situation. The "senior" pig will make the first move in most cases, physically pushing the newbie around and licking certain areas on the newbie. This establishes dominance...males are big on this behavior.

Irving did try this to Jeffery, but Jeffery was having none of that by nipping Irving when Irving attempted to show dominance. Later in the day they'd worked everything out, because they were snuggled up together.

We'll keep a close watch on them for awhile, but the first indications are good...:fingerscrossed:

When you say senior do you mean the older one or the one you've had longer?

Yes on both counts. We seem to always bring on younger piggies when we add one. The older males are more comfortable in an obvious sense, and I believe that the older pig might think the youngster is going to compete for sows...;)

They're still getting along...actually eating out of the same bowl...well, except for one piece of green pepper, which they kept taking from each other...which was silly, because there were two other pieces of pepper right beside the one they were having a fit about....;)
