What is this all about?

Every so often when I scritch Blu he almost flips over onto his back. He's getting closer and closer to going all the way upside down.


I think it's adorable but I'm not sure what it means, exactly?

Is he just being silly and playing?
Is he getting sexually stimulated?
Or do the stitches just feel so good that he goes all into it?

I try to encourage it cause I love it and hope to hold him on his back one day, but don't want to do it if it gives him the wrong idea. I know macaws and conures roll on their backs but not sure if Quakers are known to?

My guess is that Blu is just thoroughly enjoying his scritches. As far as I know, this isn't something that QPs are known for doing-- but every parrot has his or her own ideas.

Omg! I wish I just had my video camera on! I wasn't even touching him, cause both hands are on my phone, and flipped on his back all the way and then rolled down and fell. Lololol!

They are some of the cutest photos... how can you not love him!

BTW... Pilo will do the same and almost roll on his back, albeit he doesn't like going the whole way onto it! He also opens his wings which I know will stimulate him, so I avoid that at all costs!

Pilo is a little heart stealer too! I'm trying to imagine him rolling over with his wings out. That's gotta be dangerously cute. Try and get a picture of it sometime, if you can

@parrotluv , sorry to be so technical but may I ask... when you say they "don't do this as a bonded pair", does that mean he does not see me as his bonded mate? Or do you just mean it's unusual behavior in general for the species?

The only bird that flips on his back here is Buddy. He flips over after he gets covered for the night...he also grumbles when he's on his back. I've tried to get a picture of him but he's too quick...so far....

Yes, it's up there in the nauseatingly cute region on the scale.

The cutest part is the grumbling Buddy carries on while on his back...I guess he'd rather grumble than grind his beak...

On the grate, right beside the side of the cage. That way it's faster for him to grab the side of the cage to flip himself back over...smart little sucker...
