so this afternoon me and my bf went to the breeder...

we arrived to fing a bunch of babies playing around on the kitchen table (superb and plum headed), with a blue fronted amazon and a blue and gold macaw to watch over them under supervision of course.

we thought it would be easy to choose but it was the opposit.

we imediatly fell in love with one female barraband that was very curious and exploring as well as a plum headed thatfollowed her and was full of energy !!!!!

so we stayed there looking at them talking to them, watching their behavior and looking for signs of illness etc...

from the moment they hatched they lived together and were handfed together.

we asked to see the green cheek and because they told us that the 3 cheek babies are bullies to the barraband and plum headed they had to put them back in their cage, so then they let the cheeks come out and it was a nightmare !!

the cheeks hated us and were super aggressive ! that was a chock to me ... they were only interested in bullying the keets through the cage bars and climbing on their owners....

after a while we decided to let the keets come out again and put the cheeks in their own cage.

my boyfriend had a preference for the barraband and me for the plum head ... after an our we came into a agreement to take both home and if they don't get alone while growing up we will get a second cage in order to separate them.

i know some of you will not agree with our decision but we made our decision as responsable adult and will do everything in our power to make them happy and do whats best for them.

for now they will house together as long as they are happy together, by the way they are sleeping togetheragainst one another.

Happy time for you! The toy you have in the 5th photo with soft wood hanging on a string is on the forum here listed as an unsafe toy. Suggest you read up on it.

Congrats! They are both adorable! I don't think anyone will have a problem with your choice seeing as you are open to separate cages in the future if necessary. :)

Every toy can be dangerous depending on how the bird uses it and their size. If your birds fly in the cage then I would make sure it is out of the fly zone or restring it with leather or a skewer. All my birds have the regular size kabobs and have never had an issue other than chewing the twine and letting the wood fall. But supervision is recommended with any toy at least until you know how they behave.

Yeah sounds like GCC's they can be bullies & they know there owners but
you went on your gut backed by your research & that's the best way to do it
now you have the best of both worlds.

The birds can keep each other company & take some of the pressure off you.
Hopefull they are bes friends for life but if they should get into sqabbles in the furture then there own cage would solve that. They should be about the same in size so tats good.

They are cuties~~~They look so much alike to me but time will tell if the plum is a male...

:fairy2:

Good call on the string kebob...I dont give Rio any string & watch the hole size on things that could catch a head or a nail or foot...He's only got AS toys & a leather cord wood block.leather hanging toy.

im so weak for females too ! by the way i just read the post about the kabob, what if i take out the rope and leave the kabob block as foot toys ,
I do that too! My grey loves the pieces.

Very cute and wonderful decision to choose both birds.

Re the kebab toy, it's the twine that's the issue. Just because some use it as is without any issue (so far) doesn't change the fact that a strong possibility of danger exists. If over time, by chewing away with their beaks, your fids manage to remove the wood from the twine and then later they are swinging on that twine, then that twine becomes a strangulation risk. There are stainless steel skewers like this 12/20Cm Stainless Steel Small Parrot Toy Kabob Food Stick Scooter Fruit Skewer | eBay its safer to discard the twine and thread the wood onto a skewer like that instead.
