Lunch Bag Forging toy

What you will need:
Old fashion brown paper lunch bags
( online you can smaller type bags that are just like these)
Jute or hemp rope
$ Tree shred
Hole punch
Embellishments: paper/ plastic straws, pony beads, parrot candy from TnT, loofa slices, wooden beads, vine balls, paper, etc. etc.
A large eyed needle, the longer the better
Treats; nutriberries, popped plain popcorn, sunflower seeds, safflower seeds, etc. etc.

What you are going to do:
Take one paper bag at a time. You will fold this in thirds from bottom to top, and unfold. At the bottom of the bag you will want to punch 6 to 8 holes from left to right. On the sides of the end of bag, punch 4 to 6 holes. You will use these holes to punch the ones in the rest of the bag, by folding the bag, punching, the next third. The get the center holes punched fold the bag thirds into half. Punch those center holes. Be aware punching those holes is tough and you may not be able to punch all the way thru. But you can mark the holes and punch them out too. Save those holes in the punch for inside of the bag. I keep plastic sandwich bag and empty the hole punches into that bag for other projects.

In the bottom of the lunch bag you will put in a treat from the above mentions. Do not open the bag fully, just shake down the treat and manipulate until it’s under the flap. once it’s under flap, you can sew the embellishments on. Fold the upper 2/3’s over each other and thread your needle with double portion of jute/hemp. One thread on either side of the eye of the needle. At the bottom make a double knot. The easiest way I have found to do this, make a wrap around your finger of both threads into a loop. Use the tails of the loop to wrap twice thru that loop, snug it up tightly. Start at the bottom of the center 4 punches, slip needle into the hole to the knot, add embellishments, going across to opposite hole needle thru. Come up in the next hole above, repeat, until all eight holes are strung. Tie off the back with two stitches. Pull out a good size wad of shred and set in the center. Restring needle and sew up the sides with either over hand stitch or blanket stitch. Make sure all the stitches are tight but not too tight to pull thru the holes. Restring the needle and sew the top close with same stitches as sides. In the top side without any holes, put at short double pieces of jute/hemp and sew a handle to attach to the cage with a pear closable hook or clip style clothes pin. you could use grocery bags for bigger birds.
Any questions??
