Drew the larger koi out this afternoon with some fish flakes. I'm trying not to feed them too, too much until I get the new filter setup in place, which won't be till tomorrow, probably. Did get some video of them...

BTW - the parrot you can hear in the background is Babe, my double-yellow-head.

It's 20 x 10 at it's widest points. Should be somewhere around 1200 gallons. Part of that is taken up by plant life.

I have a Koi pond also , time to clean and do a partial water change, Stringy algae on the waterfall this time of year.
I have to keep a pond net over it because a resident "Blue Heron " think it's his personal sushi bar !

Very nice! We have work to do on this one. It is suffering from lack of maintenance, due to the 73-year-old woman we bought it from having health issues.

The pictures of the pond was from last year I have cleared out a lot of over growth. Took out the island in the middle, thinned out the Lillys ,

It's a lot of work , if Lillys are planted up in the bottom of pond , I have to get in pond and pull out huge tubers, full of green muck when I climb out. The fish swim around me when Im in there.

I should be getting the new filter set up tomorrow. Then we'll see what we do next. The lilies we have are in the plastic pots you can see the fish swimming around.

They grow out of the pots pretty fast. Will naturally take root on the pond floor.

Yes,they form a very dense root system, the pond will produce sludge , leaves will break down
a form of aquatic compost. Eco balance is what is important in pond keeping . If you have the right elements , you wont need to resort to artificial additives. It's a fun hobby I enjoy pond keeping,

Good luck , have fun !

Yep, stuff gets overgrown in a couple of seasons, every other year I do a major thinning out. Don't be tempted to overstock your pond with fish, their waste will feed the pond with to much fertilizer. puts a heavy load on the ammonia and nitrate levels toxic levels. end result poor water quality and clarity.

The new filter setup is running. Haven't connected to the water feature yet. Just recirculating the water into the pond.

Cleaning of the pond underway. Lowe's was selling out their last year's pond stuff at good prices, so I have a new filtration set-up that is running as of today. We'll see how it does.

My wife started cleaning up the water Iris bed. The whole bed floats, so we may try to pivot it against the edge of the pond, instead of sticking straight out into the middle.
