I'm thinking about getting one, but they all seem to have some kind of teflon inside. I read that they don't get hot enough to harm a bird.

What do you all think? Anyone have one?

Thanks!

Wow, I never even thought about this. I have a bread maker too. I'm anxious to read any replies to your question.

Teflon is supposed to start generating fumes at around 350 degrees, but everything I've seen suggest it isn't really all that dangerous until it gets closer to 500 degrees.
A bread maker is probably going to be baking bread right around 350 degrees, so it should be safe... but a little close for comfort.
I've used a nonstick rice steamer around birds because that doesn't get close to hot enough, but a bread maker would make my a little nervous.

You could probably use a breadmaker to handle the kneading and rising of the dough for you and then remove the finished dough and just bake it in a pan in the oven.

I just saw them on the "common household things that are toxic to birds" list recently. I don't think I would risk it indoors myself, but would it be possible to use it outside? I did that a few times with my wafflemaker.

Most bread machines take 9 years and make horribly shaped loaves. I hated mine. I now use a Kitchenaid stand mixer with a dough paddle and a standard aluminum bread pan. :)
