i take mine to the bird rescue weekly... i know disease is a risk but i wouldn't shield my dogs from other dogs for that and i feel the same about any other pet, honestly.
I wonder. Does this build their immune system or does it pose a risk? From what I know, dogs can only exchange disease through direct contact unless it's a very specific disease. My dog has Autiommune Anemia and can't interact with dogs at all such as sniffing butts anymore. Unless a dog had TB or something lung related, which probably means it is in the hospital (the dog, I doubt, would survive for very long with the disease), I don't think dogs can spread diseases like that. Though, parrots in the wild interact with stranger birds all the time, right? Interesting topic!
