Well I'm new to this site and I've no idea if I'm doing this right but my mum found this Rosella bird on the road a day ago. It has a broken wing, one blind eye and the side of its beak is broken, we have taken in a lot of sick or injured animals in the past but I'm worried about this guy because he can't really eat seeds. I've done some research and understand that they eat mostly wild fruits and plants so I've given him some native and non-native berries, he can only suck on the juice but I don't think that's enough. I've also offered him cockatiel seeds but he doesn't seem to know how to eat it due to his broken beak. Besides that he doesn't seem agitated or scared and is responding to human contact quite well. I just really want him to survive. Any help would be appreciated and food suggestions would be even better :) ps I've attached some photos of him

Hi, thanks for trying to help this little guy. He/she is a Lorikeet and they don't eat seeds. They eat nectar (a liquid food). Go to your local pet store and ask for Wombaroo Lorikeet & Honeyeater or similar. It's a powder you mix with water and serve wet.

With his injuries, sounds like he needs a vet too.

Native flowers like bottle brush and grevillea are also favorite foods. Fruit will be appreciated too.

Thanks so much for helping out. Yea I realised my mistake later on about what type of bird he is. I'm planning to go to the store tomorrow to pick up some formula and will hopefully take him to the vet.

Thanks for helping the cutie.
Good thing they eat liquid food.
Be good to get some nutrition in him.

A vet visit would be good. I hope he is ok internally. He may have been hit by a car.
Do you have any wild life conservation groups near you?
Maybe you could call to see if they would provide care & rehab until it is ready to be released into the wild?

Good luck to the lil guy!

Welcome to the avenue. :welcome2:
So happy you found him and are helping him. :)
I hope the nectar gets some more food in him, and that the vet trip goes well.
Keep us updated if you can?

I named this little fighter Olly, he's doing very well, his wings aren't broken thank god but they were a little sprained. Thank you all for the support and care Olly is now apart of the family, I was planning to let him go after he has recovered but he seems to really like it here and is responding to the other birds really nicely and honestly I've grown to love the little dude too. Hopefully he stays healthy and lives a happy long life
