I made some colored popsicle sticks a while ago by soaking the wood in water diluted food coloring, and none exept the red turned out really bright. My sister made some for me later by dropping the colors directly on the sticks and as you can see on the right side of the picture that it tuned out really awesome. I am a bit concerned about the direct application of the food coloring. Is it safe to use?? Thanks

Nah, I do not think it will hurt the bird at all. If you want a stronger color you just need to add more color to your water or rubbing alcohol. The light color is a result of not enough color. Popsicle sticks absorb the coloring pretty easily but you just needed to make your solution with more colorant. Oh, did I just tell you that you needed more color 3 times?!! LOL!
