Wow. Time goes by way too fast..
Hard to think that i came from this thread- http://forums.avianavenue.com/index.php?threads/a-couple-questions.143742/ (I actually bookmarked that thread.)

To where i am now, with my lovely little Butter. :xflove:
Hey, things are still easy! He's still a baby! ;)
Still not a screamer, no plucking, and i have him on a schedule similar to what it would be if i had a job, so when i do get a job, it'll be easy.
So far, i feel accomplished! :highfive:

In the meantime, some feathered brat wants to know why i'm taking pictures of him

Congratulations on your success with Butter. Now and then the majority are wrong - and you are proof of that.

I remember that thread and while people were harsh at times, it was all for the sake of the bird and your life. Sometimes a dose of tough love with some reality checks sprinkled in are truly necessary ;)
Especially since time and time again we see how inexperienced people get WAY in over their head when they bring that cute, cuddly baby 'too into their lives.

Although I do believe you are an anomaly, a special case of someone young who has come to realize what it takes to care for such an emotionally complex creature. It does help that you have very supportive parents :) Even so, I wish more young people (and people in general) had your mindset. I hope you have many more years with Butter and am happy to see that things are off to a good start!

Here is me crossing my fingers and hoping I was wrong about my initial suspicions on how your care for Butter was going to turn out. Congratulations on your keeping a U2 happy for a year.

One thing is that you always to think long term with a bird. Right now Butter Is just under 1.5 years old. Butter has the sames genes as a wild bird and those genes are going to dictate a set of instincts. Up untill now, those genes have been telling him that his parents (read you) know every important thing in the world and that he should accept every thing he parents "tell" him.

Over the next year or so, Butter's instincts will shift some where he will begin to challenge his parent's authority, he will come to the understanding that you are not always "right". And, that is where the real challenge of caring for a cockatoo will begin.

Good luck and be sure to use the resources at your hands such as AA to would though problems that WILL accrue.

Congrats on your first year down! I hope to see you post each year, your Too anniversary. I want to see many, many posts. ;)

Praying you and Butter weather many years together. Baby and young Toos are sweet and adorable, but you'll be tested as you both grow up.

They'll not all be easy, but you've a good attitude, and with more experience (Butter will gladly provide this), you'll soon be one of our 'veteran' Too owners.
