Little Zeek's mouth area

I took all three parrots to the vet to get groomed on Tuesday. Zeek sustained a little cut to the tissue around the beak area.

I came home yesterday to see Zeek had not eaten much of his food. This is very unusual for a caique! I couldnt understand why, as he seemed healthy and very playful, until I saw the tissue around his beak - swollen and red. When I pulled the feathers back, it was alarmingly inflamed. I went ahead and gave him a dose of enterfoxacin and metacam and emailed the vet. He said to continue the treatment. It already looks better today, but he is still not eating as much. I think it hurts for him to eat. I did handfeed him some vegetables this AM and I caught him eating a nutriberry, so I think he is improving. The vet suggested babyfood in a syringe, which I will do today.

Anyway, I hate seeing these little guys uncomfortable! Zeek gets a little needy when hurt, and I have been walking around the house snuggling him. My poor little guy!

Thank you guys! I hate seeing him in pain. I really realize how much I love these little guys when they are hurt. These things always happen on weekends! Luckily, my vet was reachable by email.

Thanks! @gibsongrrrl I think the dremmel he was using on his beak must have slipped. It did not look bad at the time, but 3 days later it was swollen and red. He does seem a little better now, but still not eating as much as usual.

Poor Zek! I wonder if the vet held his beak at the juncture to tight during grooming. Glad you are treating him. I hope he heals fast!

Thank you guys! It is looking a little better and I can see the scab hanging off. I think it was a worse cut than we thought. It is hard to get a good look at it. I gave him some carrot baby food and oatmeal baby food, but surprisingly he didnt care for them. (Rocky, though, loved it!) He had SO MUCH energy in him this AM, that I am guessing he must be getting enough food in. I stopped the metacam because he doesnt seem to be in pain. He spent this AM bouncing around the kitchen island, wrestling, and chasing my hand. He was nonstop and very cute!
