If you haven't tried squashed 3 oz dixie cups as foraging toys your really should. I put nuts, fruit or just their regular chop in the cup and then fold it up. They know just what to do with them. Sometimes I punch a whole in the cup and hang it up.

Hey Mom pick it up! Love your birds. A grand idea but not for budgies.

We use squished cups too..the 3 oz ones. They have to work for their treat! :D

Hmmmmm, maybe not for budgies. Maybe a little dish of toys for budgies with some treats mixed in.

They really love it! Rainey and Bandit (BHC's) had a whole dish of chop and sprouts in their cage when I made the video but they worked the cups over first. Birds really do love to forage!

As long as you keep the cup open, you could probably hang it and put shredded paper in it. They might find that fun. Nafesh does anyway, but I use plastic shotglasses for that.

Great idea! ;)

Yup, Wasabi gets treats in the paper cups twice a day and he always goes for the cup first. He knows. It's a wonderful idea.

I'm sure my Goffin would love this idea! She loves to figure and work things out.
Her only problem is she doesn't care about the reward inside (she just tosses the nut/toy), she love the game of 'getting it out'.

I've been doing this every day now and it really seems that mine don't care if there is a treat or toy inside. They just love the cups.

Yesterday, Bandit saw a stack of cups and ran over and dumped them, there was a hazelnut and a cashew inside and they dumped out. Bandit just happily started chewing on the cup. Ember was quite happy to find the nuts!

Wasabi usually chews the paper cup apart hours after he's eaten what was in the cup.

It works for lovies too, just crimp the rim and get the cheaper (and not as hard) uncoated cups.

But because the way they bite paper into strips I recommend cutting off the harder loop around the rim and even then watch carefully how your birdie chews them. Peanut cannot have them while alone, because she does perfect noose-sized loops.
When supervised though they are a great way to get a bored birdie to leave you alone for a while, fun paper chewing with hidden food inside. She loves it. :D
