I decided to name him Darwin. His name means "dear friend". I brought him home this morning around 10am EST and as soon as we put him in the brooder he started begging for food! He ate really well and has been taking naps and periodically whining for acknowledgment. His crop is almost empty so I will be feeding him again as soon as it is completely empty. He is everything I hoped and dreamed he would be. He has a lot of growing to do over the next few weeks. I am so excited to experience it with him! Thank you for the support everyone!

Yay, he is so adorable!!! I wouldn't mind getting mine that young to bond with, but I'm not ready for that. I'd be devasted if I did something wrong!! I'm so happy for you and Darwin! I hope he brings you joy!! I know he will.

This morning he woke me up right before my alarm went off! He's learning! He ate 36ml of formula for breakfast and now he's relaxing in his brooder. Look at the pretty blue feathers coming in on his wings! He'll be a feathered cutie in no time at this rate!

Once they start picking at the blanket or substrate I then put food on the bottom of the cage (pellets or some type of dry soft food). Initially they play with it but like any baby they put it in their mouth. Great way to get them eating solid food.

Is it safe to put pellets and seed in his brooder? I don't want him to chock while I'm not supervising. He is just starting to chew on the paper towels.

I would hold off on seed right now. Pellets or puffed baby food are fine. As solid foods are taken in more routinely you can add other stuff.

Yeah, I say stick with the soft foods for now... Ive been doing a lot of reading and pellets are slowly being eliminated from the ekkie diet as well as foods with salicylic acids... Just a little new information. Food-Info.net : What is Salicylic acid and in which foods does it occur?
I think will lead to a longer life... we can't eliminate all of these foods, so moderate to high levels are to be given scarcely!

That is scary to know and hard to understand. Can anyone make me a list of safe fruits, veggies, etc. that I can give to him who are not high in salicylic acid. And I'm not planning on giving the pellets once he is grown. I just figured if I wet them and mushed them a little it would be easy for him to eat.
