I just wanted to share this beauty that I was able to see and photograph this past weekend.
It's a Purple Gallinule, a bird that I have longed to see since I got my first field guide of North American birds. In the last 5 years I have traveled and bird watched in 48 states and parts of Canada this is the 360th species that I have seen and ID'ed. I am super excited to have gotten some decent pictures as well.
It was an awesome and almost surreal moment for me. You would not imagine that something like this is lurking in the reeds of southern swamps
It was also quite fortunate that it was a sunny day and we could see it's beautiful feathers.
I think it is standing on a stick but this bird can actually walk on top of lily pads because of it's long yellow toes.
There are too many different shades of blue and purple to count!
Even when he turns tail and runs it's a good picture
I hope you enjoyed him as much as I did!
