Hummingbird wars

The hummingbird wars started yesterday. The Rufous and Black-chinned are chasing each other all over thed yard...

Here we have a young Bullock's Oriole at the hummingbird feeder...

The hummingbirds were not pleased...

The jays say "Can't you do something about these guys?"

They are quite territorial and will fight amongst themselves over feeders. I tried to rescue one that was hurt; he was on the ground but flew away when I tried to get him. The next day I found him dead in the exact same spot. Very sad, but the same day I found him several hummers were dive bombing each other. I put up more hummers and hope it doesn't happen again.

AWESOME photos! We have tons of hummingbirds where we live. This summer I had to save 4 from dehydrating in our garage. The just keep flying in there. I hand fed them then let them go and they were good!
