I am posting this for a friend who is looking for a home for her two Caiques. They were rehomed to her and although she has tried her hardest to provide a loving home for them their needs and bad habits have just become too much for her. She is looking to find them a home with someone who has previous bird experience and can provide for their many needs.
Rio is an almost 2 year old female white bellied caique and her mate Cabo is a 5 year old male black headed caique. Currently they share the same cage but it would be best if they went to a home where they could live in separate cages but have out of cage playtime because they will try to breed if kept in the same cage together. Cage will not be provided.
Pros
-Very hyper
-Love people
-Rio loves being pet
-Love playing
-Will eat anything
-Very young
-Hand raised
-Adjust easily
-Flip and play on their backs (female mostly)
-Love playing on the floor
-Hop constantly
-Love to make noises
-Very goofy and fun
-Female loves cuddling
-Female will warm up to anyone who spoils her
-male is really calm
-get along with dogs
-Male listens well
-female loves being on the shoulder
-female loves to eat vitamins, minerals, etc.
-they groom each other so pin feathers shouldn't be a problem
Cons
-Can be very loud
-Female is spoiled
-Male is iffy about touching other than his head
-recovering ex-pluckers
-Female self mutilated once
-May try to breed
-Want everything edible and will scream when they can't have it
-female has bad feather condition from over bathing (but that is improving)
-female is in her terrible twos
-They fight sometimes
-do not do well if they cannot see each other
-Do not like other birds
-do not like children (most likely)
-when the female doesn't like someone she goes out of her way to attack them
-male is very shy
-female has a bad temper
-male becomes uncomfortable when away from cage and female
-female plays aggressively
-female chews on skin when she is happy, like when her head is being scratched
-Both are terrified of a nail clipper and nail file machine
-Female ate a lot of metal bits as a baby and almost had liver poisoning but has been given an OK by an avian vet
-They destroy everything, even perches
-the female is very sneaky and can hide easily if you turn your back for one second
-Their water needs to be changed multiple times a day, they like to dump their toys and food into it
-they will fight over food and water after its just been changed or if the bowls were recently empty
-they don't like it when their bowls are removed
-fruity pellets don't work well with the female's stomach
