Does anyone have experience with this cage company? I have emailed with them a few times and they have been very responsive and pleasant. I am looking at having them build a 48" x 27" cage for two parakeets. It would be an indoor cage, on a stand about 30" off the floor. Anyway, their prices seem reasonable, but does go up once you start adding things. It is $200 to powdercoat the cage black. I am thinking I could wait and do this later if I could find someone local? Black was the only color option and I'm not sure I want that color.

They use some type of a mesh, and they sent me samples of it. There is 3" spacing between the horizontal bars, .5" spacing between the vertical bars. My EH cages have 6" spacing between the horizontal bars, which makes the cages seem very spacious and open. CL does not offer this option.

I am thinking of ordering: 48" l x27.5" w cage, 30" tall on stand, 30" off ground, no shelf (dont want clutter), 12 gauge mesh, .5 inch bar spacing, small door on sides and small door on back, castor wheels.

The two parakeets' cage is currently the prevue xlarge flight cage - 36" x 22". The parakeets cannot come out as they fly into the windows. They seem happy in this cage, but am I right in thinking that the extra space will be better?

Thanks!

I have been emailing them also...I am looking for something to use as an outside cage on my patio. I am waiting for a quote on an enclosure as well as a freight quote. Hoping to purchase something soon. Must be shipped by freight...not sure how this works...

Had they not been on vacation when I was looking for SS for Sophie, I would have bought from them. Their price on a 42 x 28 cage 2 feet off the ground was very reasonable. But, they didn't return my inquiry for more than a month. They were just under $500 for that cage, but then I realized I had forgotten to ask for food dish doors, which increased the price by $85 each. Still a good price though IMO.

They have done aviaries for quite a few zoos if you looked at the list of their customers. And been in business for 30 years.

Honestly, $200 for the powdercoating is a good price. If you have it done yourself, take care to use only the FDA approved safe pc. I only found one place in NW Ohio that can do that kind, and $200 is a better price than I could have gotten on a cage.

They do a stainless 42 x 28 for $500? That's good to know! I didn't even know they did SS.

No, that was aluminum. He only told me SS would be "quite a bit more", but not an actual price. If that was SS I'd be getting one made for everybirdie :D

However, down the road, I will definitely consider getting aluminum for Rowdy and Merlin. Since they are custom, they would be able to design me a cage for Merlin that met her needs.

Aluminum mesh or aluminum framing with GAW mesh? I thought aluminum was too soft unless anodized, like the King's cages and carriers.

Rockybird, maybe try getting some quotes locally to have a cage that size powder coated. I just had a metal bed frame re-powder coated and it was over $300. It's less material and less intricate than a mesh cage that size would be. Might help you make your decision.

Anodized aluminum framing with GAW mesh. SS hardware. Not sure how they do the hardware as steel and aluminum don't generally get along, but I will go with that they know what they are doing, having done it for 3 decades.

Thanks for all the feedback. :)

Celia- please post if you get your cage. Would be great to see!

Wonderb and Audrey, I did not realize that powdercoating is so expensive! I dont want black and that is all they offer. I might just prefer the metal color to black.

Audrey, I agree, the price is reasonable for a custom cage. But it does get more pricey adding the features on.

Here is a pic of the samples he sent:
<a href="1397955394_zpsb21ca153.jpg Photo by jeschbacher | Photobucket" target="_blank"><img src="http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o87/jeschbacher/Mobile Uploads/1397955394_zpsb21ca153.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 1397955394_zpsb21ca153.jpg"/></a>

It is some type of galvanized mesh - 12 gauge and 16 gauge. I would get the stronger in case I use the cage for a conure ever.

I was thinking of using the one on the upper right. My only other thought is to wait until EH starts making .5" ss cages, but I am thinking ss would be overkill for two parakeets.

Macawnutz, what type of cages does Rahel have?

The place near me only offers white and gray on the pc, and I needed black :hehe:

Corners Limited would allow me to get a larger cage for Rowdy than I could otherwise unless EH finds a new welder.

Thanks for posting pics of the samples...I was thinking of getting this... It is 30" W x 60" D x 78" H.But would really like something a little larger - not too large - maybe 4' x 6' and 6' high. But need to figure out how to get them safely in and out. This would be for my cockatiels. I am anxiously waiting to hear back from Karen...I have been planning this since last summer.

I just ordered a cage from them 6 x 4 x 6! It will be a walk in and the people door will be like a dutch door so the bottom can stayed closed the just the top open so he can come out. This will be an indoor cage for a screened in lanai. When it gets here and gets put together I will post a photo. Very excited to get it, and hope it works how I think it will.

I wanted something larger for him, something he could be in and I wouldn't feel guilty leaving him in if I had to be away for an entire day or a trip away for a couple of days.

I would love to see a pic of this - same measurements! How was the shipping process?

Wow Bernee, that will be a great cage! Did they give you an idea of how long it will take? Was the shipping expensive?

Cecilia, that will be a super cage for cockatiels.

Are either of you powdercoating the cages?

I'm reposting the pic in case it didnt come through:

Do your parakeets climb on the bars a lot or chew the finish? GAW is coated with zinc which can cause heavy metal poisoning. I think it's a great option for outdoor use but I'd personally prefer powder coating for a full time cage, especially if the birds climb a lot or chew bars.

I did not ask about powdercoating. It would only be used outside on my patio during the warmer months and supervised. I would never leave them outdoors when I am not home or even overnight. Just enough to give them plenty of fresh air and sunshine. Hopefully there would be enough in it to keep the tiels busy and playing where they would not be chewing on the mesh. I had a cage made for them by affordablecustomcages.com for indoor use and that has SS mesh. They don't chew that cage one so I'm hoping they won't chew or climb on this one if I get it! Planning on covering with some type of netting to protect from mosquitos and bees also...I know somewhere here someone posted a link for such covering.

What they suggested for me was 1/2" x 1" GAW mesh 16 gauge.

Thanks for the info. wonderb. They dont climb on the bars much, but I dont want to take a chance, especially if I ever house a different bird in it. I will have to powdercoat then. I had no idea it would be dangerous for them. I guess black might have to do. I will need to see how much the total bill will be, because the higher the price gets, the more I think about waiting for EH to make the .5" cages.

Celcilia, I am getting the thicker bars (I think 12 gauge?). I want it in case I ever house a bigger bird in the cage. Also, this will be their everyday cage and I think the mesh pattern with the thicker bars may feel more roomy to them.

Macawnutz, she has an amazing aviary! Her birds look very happy in it.

I asked about the zinc as well. They told me it's a very clean wire and there has never been a problem in 30 years.

@webchirp as I think she's planning to use the exact same wire for her outdoor aviary. Maybe she's going with the SS wire though.
