I was sitting quietly in another room reading and our conure, Batman was already in his cage for the night.

I heard terrible cries coming from him and rushed to his cage. He was on his back, flapping his wings weakly and the loud squawking had subsided to almost nothing.

I picked him up and opened his beak thinking he might be choking on something. Nothing there. Then he just died in my hands.
He was less than 3 years old and seemed to be having a regular happy Batman day today.
I'm crushed. i'm a 56 year old man and I'm sitting here crying like a baby.
I never heard of anything like this. What could have caused it?

I am so sorry!! I had the same thing happen with my 4 year old tiel 3 years ago. It could be many things, but please don't think its anything you did. Batman will always be in your heart.

Oh no, I am so sorry for your loss...gosh, it could be a seizure, heart attack, so many thinkgs. THere was nothing you could do when it happened so quickly....

Please, if you can, have a necropsy done....this will help you by finding out what happened...sounds like a seizure to me BUT it could be many things...

oh no...Mike I am so very very sorry for your loss...don't feel ashamed for crying...you just lost a family member....only other bird people will understand how they are so incredibly important and wonderful...and family....the only way to find out what happened is to get a necropsy done by an avian vet....if you don't want to do that, then my guess he may have had a stroke...it does happen unfortunately...Just like a human..you may appear to be fine, and then you are gone...dear Mike I am so sorry for your loss.....fly free Batman fly free.....He will wait for you until one day, you will be reunited...my deepest sympathies

Oh no....this is a terrible loss. Our fids are family and we understand how much your heart is hurting. I am so very sorry.
