We don't do pellets here...well except for what is in their mix already which is Kathie (MSBS) mix. I usually buy equal amount of both pellet and non pellet (depends on what I have left) and then mix in some type of quality seed mix and whatever else I feel like at the moment! Last month I mixed in Tropimix, the month before was something by Goldenfeast. This month it'll be just plain ole' BH cause Mama is broke!

I've never seen the nut blend from Kaytee. It might be a bit better, I'm not sure. All I know is that I want my bird's food to look like something I could eat. The almonds in that seed mix Rocco was eating were almost black.

I personally think that eating a quality seed mix and no pellets is better than eating a poor quality seed mix and some pellets. He might take to it, you never know.

Totally Organics and Avian Organics are my two absolute favorite and most trusted brands. They are incredibly high quality and never use ANY cheaper or lower grade ingredients, not even most potential allergens, like corn, soy, or peanuts. They are extremely reputable and I feel very safe knowing that they are keeping my birds in excellent health and feather.

Here is my take for whatever it is worth. I should be the switching pellet master by now so let's see who might agree. (although no seed mix expert) I feed all my older macs Kaytee exact, and all my smaller birds zupreem fruity. I tried switching for years and have finally had some success. My goal would be all on harrisons but the birds do not care for my goal. Birds on exact seem to switch to zupreem naturals fairly easily if you just throw in a small handful everyday for about a month, same with switching from zupreem fruity. Birds on zupreem naturals don't mind pretty bird or harrisons but again it takes awhile. Tops and roudybush (for my birds) They will eat a small amount of but because they are pellets (like rabbit food pellets) they don't seem to eat enough or just kind of make a powdery mess with. I add tops in with the chop or birdy bread because they do like it but seem to not eat it well enough. In a months time I buy Kaytee exact, zupreem fruity, zupreem naturals, pretty bird, harrisons, and tops. ( so I do know my pellets ) Buy next month I hope to just be buying naturals, harrisons & tops but Maui is REALLY stuck on Pretty bird. Don't know how to switch that one. Maui did eat the nut blend..... I;m the one that did not like it

I use the Zupreem Naturals for Pia because it was what she was familiar with and its readily available to me. can anyone tell me about the other brand's pros and cons or link me to another thread about it, because obviously there is a pattern here and i'd like to learn more about the brands.

Thank You, Ming-Ming for the siggie!!

We do the following pellets here:

Zupreem Fruity (Quaker is addicted...trying to wean him off)
    Zupreem Natural
    Totally Organics pellets

Then we have Goldenfeast Petite Hookbill (which smells amaaaazing) and Kathie's Bountiful Harvest from www.mysafebirdstore.com

Pellets and the dry mixes are available in the cage while we are at work.

Everyday they get fresh foods, including sprouts, which are mung beans, broccoli, radish, clover, and alfalfa.

For seeds I made my own custom mix using human grade organic seeds from www.nuts.com. I will not buy prepackaged seeds anymore as I am always disappointed with the quality/mix. They only get maybe a tablespoon or two a week of seeds. I'm pretty stingy with them! And try to serve them soaked whenever possible.
